Raul Rivero strike sinks Chicago Fire

Vancouver Whitecaps snatch victory at Chicago Fire thanks to Raul Rivero's late strike at Toyota Park.

Raul Rivero's late strike earned Vancouver Whitecaps their first win of the MLS season away to Chicago Fire.

The hosts almost found a breakthrough on 24 minutes when Joevin Jones was denied by keeper David Ousted.

Ousted needed to be on his mettle again before the break when Harrison Shipp latched onto Michael Stephens' pass, but saw his effort saved by the busy Vancouver stopper.

Not to be outdone, Fire keeper Jon Busch was called into action to thwart Kekuta Manneh as the teams reached the interval on level terms.

Both sides had chances to break the deadlock at Toyota Park, with Nicolas Mezquida firing wide from close range and Quincy Amarikwa seeing his second-half strike stopped by Ousted.

However, Vancouver snatched a 1-0 victory in the dying minutes when Rivero diverted Steven Beitashour ball beyond the reach of a helpless Busch.
