Chile overturn two-goal deficit to deny Poland in World Cup warm-up

Poland squander a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Chile in their final warm-up match ahead of the World Cup finals.

Poland have surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 against Chile at the INEA Stadion in their final friendly before they jet off to Russia for the World Cup.

Robert Lewandowski, who has been tipped as a contender for the Golden Boot award at the finals, opened the scoring with half an hour played before Napoli's Piotr Zielinski doubled their advantage minutes later.

Chile, however, pulled one back before half time through Jaime Valdes and completed their comeback in the second period when Mauricio Albornoz found the net.

The Poles were the first to threaten and it was Lewandowski who registered the first shot on target, forcing a save out of Mauricio Arias in the away goal after latching on to Grzegorz Krychowiak's pass.

Chile, who did not qualify for the World Cup, ventured forwards in the 15th minute when Nicolas Castillo collected Diego Valdes's pass and shot first time, testing Wojciech Szczesny between the home sticks.

Krychowiak almost broke the deadlock moments later when he got his head to Kamil Grosicki's lofted pass, but he missed the target unmarked.

Lewandowski opened the scoring with an impressive strike from outside the box with 30 minutes played, finding the top corner with a rocket after Krychowiak had laid the ball onto him.

Four minutes later, Hull City's Grosicki played a cross into the box, allowing Zielinski to smash the ball beyond Arias to double the home side's advantage.

Chile registered an immediate response, pulling a goal back as Angelo Sagal's cross was nodded home from close range by Valdes to cut the deficit ahead of the break.

Adam Nawalka's side missed the opportunity to add to their advantage early in the second half when Maciej Rybus's cross was driven wide by Zielinski, and they were made to pay for that.

A corner fell kindly for Albornoz on the edge of the box in the 56th minute, and the Hannover 96 left-back rifled one into the top corner to level the score.

Both sides had chances to claim a winner in the closing stages, with Poland coming closest in the 75th minute when substitute Arkadiusz Milik hit a low strike just wide.

At the other end, Chile's best opportunity to snatch victory came in the 81st minute as Paulo Diaz's header drifted narrowly off target.

Poland are next in action at the World Cup finals where they will take on Senegal in their group stage opener.
