Newcastle travelled to Belgium in search of their first away win of the season and to consolidate their position at the top of Europa League Group D.
The Belgians scored two goals in the space of five minutes to lead, however Newcastle pulled two back inside the last five minutes of the first half. Both goalkeepers were inspired in the second half and the spoils were shared.

Hello and welcome to our live text commentary of Club Brugge against Newcastle United. We have a visiting side wanting a win to get one foot in the next round and a home side almost having to win to stay in touch.
First up the teams. Home team first, here's the Brugge lineup: Jorgacevic; Hogli, Hoefkens, Almeback, Jordi; Lestienne, Donk, Odjidja, Trickovski; Jorgensen; Bacca.
Odjidja in the middle for Brugge could be a danger man. Both Fulham and Everton were strongly linked with him over the summer.
Here's the Newcastle team: Krul; Anita, Williamson, Coloccini, Tavernier; Bigirimana, Tiote; Obertan, Marveaux, Sa Ameobi; Sh Ameobi.
So Sammy and Shola start together. Sammy will be in the attacking midfield three behind his brother which also includes Gabriel Obertan and Marveaux.
Brugges are on a poor run of form since topping the league a couple of weeks ago, and their manager during that time Georges Leekens was sacked at the weekend.
We're off!
With Brugges's current problems and the side Newcastle have out tonight I fancy the visitors to take this, maybe two or 3-1.
Early possession from the Magpies, if a little scrappy to start with.
Chance for Newcastle! Obertan is given far too much space to shoot with his right foot, but he puts his effort wide after cutting in.
Newcastle's turn to be sloppy as Bigirimana gives it to Bacca, but his effort is well wide.
Chance for Brugge! Bacca is found by Lestienne but tries to cut on to his right and gives Coloccini a chance to clear.
Tavernier defending very well against Trickovski there. He used his strength to intercept and pass back to Krul.
Chance for Brugge! Krul takes too long to clear and is charged down by Bacca, however the Colombian cannot find Trickovski in the box.
Ameobi is brought down wide on the left and it's a Newcastle free-kick...
Brugges break from the free-kick, it's half cleared and eventually falls to Donk whose shot from distance is well wide.
Chance for Newcastle! Obertan should make it 1-0 there. He's found well with a flick by Shola Ameobi, but Jorgacevic is down to get a strong hand on the ball.
GOAL! BRUGGE 1-0 NEWCASTLE (Trickovski)
Really good goal from Trickovski for his first Brugge goal. It was a long ball and he controlled it fantastically to take Colocinni out of the equation and slam into the bottom corner.
That was the first goal Newcastle have conceded in this competition this season. Let's see how they can recover.
GOAL! BRUGGE 2-0 NEWCASTLE (Jorgensen)
Jorgensen hit that from 25 yards. It doesn't have a great deal of power and squirms into the bottom corner. Question marks over Krul there but Brugge have a two-goal lead!
Before that goal went in David Bellion (remember him?) scored to put Bordeaux 1-0 up against Maritimo. That would mean a win would put Newcastle through... but there's work to do!
Bacca tries an ambitious toe-poked effort from the corner of the box. He had options, that should have been another real chance.
What a chance Newcastle! Ameobi and Obertan combine well again and the latter cuts the ball across to Marveaux who misses to ball completely! Sitter!
Tavernier tries to attack the left this time but Trickovski is back defending and wins a free-kick. He's played very well so far.
Jorgensen is down after Tiote catches him with an arm. Didn't look too much in that one.
Odjidja is down this time after being pulled back by Shola Ameobi. Quite soft that looked.
Chance for Newcastle! Younger Ameobi is found by Marveaux and picks out his big brother. His header is tipped over and a corner.
Newcastle are on top of this now, but Brugge are defending doggedly. Ameobi rises for a header from deep but glances it wide.
Chance for Brugge! Odjidja finds Lestienne on the left but his cross is just too high for the wide open Bacca.
Shola Ameobi controls a throw and shoots from an almost impossible angle. Selfish, but if there's someone attacking the ball it's 2-1.
Yellow card! The first of the game goes to Tiote. He gives the ball away and tugs back Odjidja. Unnecessary, especially with a referee known for being card-happy.
Newcastle's passing is getting scrappy now and Brugge are coming into it a bit more.
GOAL! BRUGGE 2-1 NEWCASTLE (Anita)
Oh my word what a hit Anita! Brugge half-clear a cross and it's dropping as Anita runs in. He smashes it on the volley and into the corner. Unstoppable.
GOAL! BRUGGE 2-2 NEWCASTLE (Shola Ameobi)
All of a sudden they're level! Tavernier finds Sammy Ameobi who plays a lovely reverse through ball to Shola, who toe-pokes it in. Great goal.
With 40 minutes gone Newcastle were heading to the break at 2-0 down. Now it's an entirely different prospect.
Club Brugge 2-2 Newcastle
Well I never. What an end to the half. In truth Newcastle were unlucky to be 2-0 down, albeit from some professional finishing from Brugge. However they pulled it back with two goals in as many minutes and who can look past them for the win now?

A few minutes away from the restart and here's hoping for another thrilling half. Both sides still have goals in them; equally both sides have gaffes waiting to happen at the back.
Mohamed Tchite is on at the break for Trickovski, which to me is surprising unless he's injured.
Second half is underway.
Tchite straight into the action but cannot control the ball and it's through to Krul.
Tavernier is brought down by Almeback, who is yellow carded for catching the left-back late. Dangerous position...
Chance for Newcastle! Ameobi rises well from Marveaux's cross but it's comfortable for Jorgacevic.
Couple of corners in a row for the hosts...
... Hoefkens rises at the second one but can only guide it over the bar.
Obertan wins a corner for Newcastle straight down the other end.
Chance for Newcastle! Ameobi again wins the header but it's over the bar. He should have hit the target, but Brugge cannot deal with his presence.
Chance for Newcastle! Again Ameobi gets the better of Jordi and forces Jorgacevic into a solid save down to his right.
Solid, constant pressure from Newcastle. They must surely break through soon? Free-kick about 35 yards out which Marveaux will take.
Chance for Newcastle! Ameobi won another header and nodded down for any teammate to meet, however it's just scrambled away.
Chance for Brugge! Tchite has few options but to test Krul from an angle. The stopper is equal to it, however.
Odjidja really should have done better there! He's found by Tchite's cutback but takes a horrible touch and the chance has gone. A couple of warnings for Newcastle.
Newcastle substitution. Mike Williamson has to come off through injury and Steven Taylor replaces him.
Chance for Newcastle! Shola Ameobi finds Marveaux, who cuts inside on his left. He looks to bend it into the top corner but gets too much on it and it's over.
Jorgacevic is earning his wages tonight. This time he holds on to a soft Sammy Ameobi shot from an angle.
Chance for Brugge! Fine stop from Krul! Newcastle cannot clear a throw and Bacca has a shot, however Krul just gets a hand on it and it goes wide.
Chance for Brugge! Lestienne swings in a cross on the break to Bacca, who rises but heads it over. It was just too high for the striker.
Brugge struggling to deal with the trickery of little Ameobi at the moment. He's come into the contest and has played well.
Coloccini defends very well against Bacca, who was looking to get in behind from a Lestienne through ball.
Brugge are probably on top at the moment, as Coloccini wins a free-kick after being fouled by Jorgensen.
The tempo has slowed right down with both sides taking their time on the ball.
Newcastle substitution. Bigirimana, who has been quite anonymous, makes way for Yohan Cabaye.
Yellow card! Hoefkens goes into the book after being skinned by Sammy Ameobi. That was coming. What can Newcastle produce here...
Close for Newcastle! I don't think he meant that, but Cabaye whips in the free-kick and hits the angle of post and bar, with Marveaux skying the follow-up.
Chance for Brugge! Hogli crosses for Tchite and Krul palms it over the bar, before he's forced to stop the corner going straight in by blocking well.
Chance for Brugge! Krul again forced to work from a stinger from distance by Odjidja.
It's been an interesting half, with Newcastle stronger for the first 20 minutes. Since then however, Brugge have been most likely to score. Odjidja again hits from range but it's wide.
Sammy Ameobi does really well to get by two Brugge defenders, but his shot is blocked.
Anita puts Krul in trouble with a poor backpass, and Odjidja comes off to be replaced by Nathaniel Lagrou.
Substitution for Newcastle. Final change for the visitors and Sammy Ameobi comes off to be replaced by Amalfitano.
Looks to be fizzling out into a draw this. Newcastle just edging back into it now, but the urgency has dropped substantially.
Penalty shout for Brugge! Bacca controls a Lestienne cross and goes down, nothing given. Then Cabaye gets a yellow card for fouling Lestienne near the corner.
There was a tug on Bacca there, but he went down seconds later. Had he gone straight away it could have been a penalty.
Close for Brugge! Training ground corner finds Jorgensen and he hits it just over on the half-volley.
Two minutes of stoppage time for either side to win this.
Late corner for the Magpies...
...It leads to another one, as Obertan's shot is blocked.
A deep Marveaux cross is claimed and that's it!
Club Brugge 2-2 Newcastle United
Well, not so much drama as the first-half but both goalkeepers earned their money in that second period. Either side could have won it, but on the balance of play Newcastle probably should have edged it.
