Wayne Brown named Colchester United caretaker manager

Colchester United name former defender Wayne Brown as their new caretaker manager following the departure of Tony Humes last week.

Former Colchester United defender Wayne Brown has been named caretaker manager of the U's.

The Essex outfit parted company with manager Tony Humes last week following a four-game losing streak in League One.

Brown will be assisted by John McGreal, who he played with at nearby Ipswich Town during his playing career, while decisions are made on a permanent appointment.

U's chairman Robbie Cowling told the club website: "I am pleased to say that they have both accepted those roles and I would like to express my thanks to them both for helping the club out.

"I hope everyone involved with Colchester United can get behind Wayne and John and give them their full support."

Brown's first game in charge will be at home to Altrincham in the FA Cup second round on Sunday.
