Croatia's Josip Simunic loses appeal against 10-match ban

Croatia defender Josip Simunic will miss this summer's World Cup after losing his appeal against a 10-match ban for discriminatory behaviour.

Croatia international Josip Simunic has lost his appeal against a 10-match international ban for discriminatory behaviour.

The defender led Croatia fans in fascist chants during the team's World Cup qualifier against Iceland last year.

The 36-year-old, who will miss this summer's World Cup as a result of the ban, will now have to appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport if he wants to attend the Brazil tournament.

Simunic, who was infamously booked three times in one match at the 2006 World Cup by English referee Graham Poll, has played in two World Cups and three European Championships for his country.
