Roy Hodgson has described Crystal Palace's 2-0 win at Huddersfield Town on Saturday as "vitally important".
The Eagles started the day in the bottom three but claimed their first win in eight games in Yorkshire to move out of the relegation zone.
Palace opened the scoring in the first half through James Tomkins's close-range effort before Luka Milivojevic converted from the spot on 68 minutes to make sure of all three points.
"It is vitally important," Hodgson told BBC Sport after full time. "All the points teams get down near the bottom are vitally appoint.
"We have had a difficult run of games and not got any points but to get something here at least puts us back in some sort of equilibrium.
"I don't think I have ever had a feeling we are on a slide. We are getting players back to fitness and our squad is looking like what it was when we were getting results."
Palace had been winless in their previous seven league games, including losing their last four, and had conceded 15 goals during that period.
