Crystal Palace defender Jairo Riedewald: 'Frank de Boer sacking was crazy'

Crystal Palace defender Jairo Riedewald describes the club's decision to sack head coach Frank de Boer after just five games as "crazy".

Crystal Palace defender Jairo Riedewald has admitted that he was 'shocked' that the Eagles decided to sack head Frank de Boer after just five games.

After failing to register a point or goal in Palace's opening four Premier League fixtures, Palace decided to replace De Boer with former England boss Roy Hodgson, and the club's form has been prolonged with defeats to Southampton, Manchester City and Manchester United.

Riedewald was one of De Boer's summer signings, and the Dutchman has claimed that it was "crazy" to sack his compatriot after just 77 days in the job.

The 21-year-old told AD: "Incredibly sorry that it has run this way. After four matches, apparently it happens in the football world. The match against Burnley we had so much bad luck. Not normal. We went back to London, the next day the trainer was fired. very crazy.

"A shock? That's a big word. Of course I chose because of De Boer at Crystal Palace. But also the Premier League is the most beautiful and greatest league for me."

Riedewald has made just one start and two substitute appearances for Palace in the league this campaign.
