Former Liverpool goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri agrees to join Crystal Palace, with paperwork now holding up the free transfer.

Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson has revealed that personal terms have been agreed to bring in free agent goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri.

The Eagles boss has been on the lookout for a new back-up stopper to compete with Wayne Hennessey after losing Julian Speroni to a season-ending injury.

Cavalieri spent time on trial with Palace last month and, after doing enough to impress manager Hodgson, a contract - the length of which is unknown - was offered to the former Liverpool keeper.

Hodgson provided a further update at his weekly press conference on Thursday afternoon, confirming that the deal remains on course to go through imminently.

"Everything's been agreed. It's a question of paperwork now," he said. "Will he play? We've only got two senior goalkeepers so his chances are great."

Cavalieri, who failed to make a single Premier League appearance for Liverpool during his two years at Anfield, has been without a club since leaving Brazilian side Fluminense at the end of last year.
