Kevin Phillips leaves Leicester City to join Derby County as assistant coach

Derby County confirm the appointment of Kevin Phillips as their new assistant coach.

Derby County have confirmed that they have appointed Kevin Phillips as their new assistant coach.

The 42-year-old had been working as first-team coach at Leicester City, having taken up the role under Nigel Pearson after retiring from playing last summer and remaining in place under his successor Claudio Ranieri.

Derby head coach Paul Clement has said that the former England striker will have much to offer at the iPro Stadium.

"I'm delighted that Kevin Phillips is joining my coaching staff; he will complement the excellent individuals and skills that we have on the coaching team already," Clement told Derby's official website.

"Kevin enjoyed an illustrious playing career. He was successful at a number of clubs, experienced being promoted to the Premier League on several occasions and his goalscoring record certainly demonstrates what an excellent striker he was.

"He is now embracing a new pathway in his career and has successfully made the transition from player to coach in the last year at Leicester City."

Phillips becomes the third man to join Clement's staff this summer, following the arrivals of first-team coach John Peacock and goalkeeping coach Pascal Zuberbuhler.
