The 26-year-old joined Derby on a two-and-a-half-year contract in January from La Liga side Eibar for an undisclosed fee.
The Spaniard went on to make nine appearances, seven of which were starts, for the Rams in the second half of the season.
Derby confirmed this afternoon that Albentosa was not in the squad for the pre-season friendly against Northampton Town as talks with Malaga continue.
