Naysmith will focus on quality with new recruits

Doonhamers boss vows to do things differently to last season.

Queen of the South manager Gary Naysmith insists he will not just add to his squad for the sake of it as they gear up to try to eliminate Dundee in their forthcoming William Hill Scottish Cup fourth round replay.

Naymsith watched his Championship side prove a match for Jim McIntyre's Premiership hosts in Saturday's 1-1 draw at Dens Park. Stephen Dobbie's 28th minute opener was cancelled out by Jesse Curran's equaliser on the stroke of half-time for the Dark Blues.

The Doonhamers boss admits it will be a tough ask to try to see off Dundee on January 29, with a push for promotion also planned.

However, he will not repeat last season's mistake of bringing in bodies who are not up to the task.

Naysmith explained: "All credit to the lads here who performed so well against Premiership opposition.

"It's a hard run of games coming up when you don't have the size of squad that other teams have.

"Last season I went out and added to the squad for the sake of it but it didn't work out.

"That was my fault so I won't be doing it again – and anyone coming in will have to enhance things.

"I've got a few targets in mind like most clubs at this time of year but we'll see what happens.

"We've got another chance to go through against Dundee and it's one we're relishing on our home patch."

Meanwhile, Dundee manager Jim McIntyre felt new boy Andy Dales' second-half display was a plus point following his arrival on loan from Scunthorpe earlier in the week.

McIntyre said: "Andy was lively and did well. We've got high hopes that he can do well for us and has a great attitude.

"He gives us good width, which is something positive but overall we know we have got to do much better come the time of the replay."
