Former England boss Fabio Capello has wished the national team "every success" following his resignation as manager.

The Italian refused to be drawn on reasons for his resignation, but instead reserved special words of praise for those involved during his reign.

"I would like to thank all players, staff and the Football Association for the professionalism they have shown during my years as manager of the English National Team," Capello said in his statement.

"A very special thanks to all the supporters - they've always supported the team and me in our job. I wish all of them every success in achieving all their sporting goals."

Capello resigned as England manager on Wednesday evening.
