FA confirms England's Wayne Rooney out of Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia

FA confirms Wayne Rooney will miss England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia on Friday due to a knock.

The Football Association has confirmed that captain Wayne Rooney will miss England's Euro 2016 qualifier against Estonia at Wembley on Friday due to an injury.

The Manchester United striker was expected to be ruled out of the penultimate qualifier after missing two training sessions due to a knock that he picked up while playing for the Red Devils.

In Rooney's absence, Chelsea defender Gary Cahill will lead the team out against Estonia wearing the captain's armband.

Despite not being fit to play, Rooney will remain with manager Roy Hodgson and his teammates as he is due to collect a commemorative golden boot from Sir Bobby Charlton at Wembley after becoming England's leading goalscorer.

The 29-year-old scored his 50th international goal, surpassing Charlton's record, in last month's 2-0 win over Switzerland.
