Burnley midfielder Jack Cork has been awarded his first call-up to the senior England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Germany and Brazil.

The 28-year-old is drafted into Gareth Southgate's squad following a spate of withdrawals from his initial selection, with six players already pulling out.

Raheem Sterling, Fabian Delph and Jordan Henderson were the latest to withdraw early today, following Tottenham Hotspur trio Dele Alli, Harry Kane and Harry Winks.

Southgate has now bolstered his midfield ranks with the inclusion of Cork, who has previously represented his country at every level from Under-16s to Under-21s.

Cork, who has started all 11 of Burnley's Premier League fixtures so far this season to help them into seventh place, also represented Great Britain at the 2012 Olympics.

England host world champions Germany on Friday night before taking on Brazil at Wembley four days later.

Updated England squad

Tammy Abraham, Ryan Bertrand, Jack Butland, Gary Cahill, Jack Cork, Eric Dier, Joe Gomez, Joe Hart, Phil Jones, Michael Keane, Jesse Lingard, Jake Livermore, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Harry Maguire, Jordan Pickford, Marcus Rashford, Danny Rose, John Stones, Kieran Trippier, Jamie Vardy, Kyle Walker, Ashley Young.
