West Ham United manager Sam Allardyce backs new signing Joe Cole to earn himself an England recall.

West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce has backed new signing Joe Cole to earn himself an England recall.

The 31-year-old midfielder, who joined the Hammers on an 18-month deal this morning, has not featured for the Three Lions since the 4-1 defeat to Germany at the 2010 World Cup.

"If he can recapture his old form and plays on a regular basis for us Joe is bound to get a bit of interest from [England manager] Roy [Hodgson] coming around to the next squad," said Allardyce.

"But his main focus will be making sure he plays for West Ham on a regular basis and producing the form we know he can."

Cole has been capped 56 times at senior international level, scoring 10 goals.
