Phil Jagielka: 'Italy not immune to Manaus conditions after Confederations Cup'

England defender Phil Jagielka does not think that Italy's experience of playing in Northern Brazil last summer gives them an advantage when they face off in Manaus.

England defender Phil Jagielka has insisted that Italy's participation in last year's Confederations Cup will not favour them in the tropical conditions of Manaus.

The Azzurri, who are England's first opponents of the 2014 World Cup on Saturday, gained experience of playing in the humidity of Northern Brazil last summer.

However, Everton centre-back Jagielka does not feel that this gives Italy any advantage as the Three Lions have also been acclimatising to high temperatures and humidity on their Miami training camp.

"Obviously they have had the experience of playing in these conditions but that's what our week-long training camp in Miami was about, to try and play in similar conditions," he told reporters.

"We have spent a lot of time planning the trips before the World Cup so we don't feel like we can be any more prepared. That means we don't need to start looking at what other teams have done or what other teams are going to do."

Jagielka, 31, has been capped 26 times by England since debuting in 2008.
