Luke Shaw: 'England squad can do big things in future'

England defender Luke Shaw expresses his excitement about the future of the Three Lions, believing that there are "big things" ahead for the squad.

England defender Luke Shaw has expressed his excitement about the future of the Three Lions, believing that there are "big things" ahead for the squad.

The 18-year-old endured disappointment in Brazil as Roy Hodgson's outfit finished bottom of their group for the first time in their history, but claimed that "there's a lot to look forward to" for the national team.

"I'm excited about the future," Shaw told FIFA.com. "I think this team can do big things and I hope that this will be the first of many World Cups for me and a few others.

"I definitely want to contribute more in the future, and I see the other young lads who're here - guys like Raheem [Sterling] and Ross Barkley - being great England players for years to come.

"There's a lot to build on. It's been a disappointing tournament but we all feel there's a lot to look forward to with this team."

Shaw became the second-youngest player to represent England at a World Cup, behind Michael Owen, in their final Group D game against Costa Rica.
