Report: Sergio Gonzalez to take charge of Espanyol

A report claims that Espanyol B manager Sergio Gonzalez will be appointed the new head coach of the first team this week.

Espanyol B manager Sergio Gonzalez will reportedly become the new head coach of the first team this week.

Espanyol are currently without a boss after experienced Mexican Javier Aguirre left his post at the end of the 2013-14 season.

A number of names, including Pepe Mel and Rayo Vallecano boss Paco Jemez, have been linked with the position, but according to Inside Spanish Football, Gonzalez will be promoted to the first team.

Gonzalez spent the majority of his playing career with Deportivo La Coruna before retiring in 2011 after one season at Levante.

The former midfielder also made 11 appearances for Spain from 2001 until 2005.
