Newly-appointed Everton manager Sam Allardyce says that he should not be compared with Watford boss Marco Silva after taking up the role at Goodison Park.

Newly-appointed Everton manager Sam Allardyce has said that he should not be compared with Watford boss Marco Silva after taking up the role at Goodison Park.

Silva, who was the subject of a failed £10m bid from the Toffees to become their new manager, could not be convinced to switch as the Merseyside club opted instead for Allardyce.

The former Crystal Palace boss, who kept the Eagles in the Premier League last season, said that his track record of ensuring teams' survival in the top flight is not comparable to Silva's record.

"If you look at my track record why wouldn't I be here irrespective of Marco Silva?" Allardyce told reporters.

"I have every respect for Marco Silva and I am not criticising Silva but his track record has got no comparison whatsoever with mine because he got Hull City relegated.

"That is perception. We have to not live in perception at our level. We have to live in reality and the reality is that I was spoken to and I pulled out and then I came back in because they felt it was the right thing to do."

Allardyce secured a victory in his first game in charge of Everton as the club beat Huddersfield Town 2-0 on Saturday.
