Ronald Koeman challenges Everton attackers to be more aggressive

Ronald Koeman believes that the Everton midfielders and strikers need to be more aggressive after their 1-1 Premier League draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Ronald Koeman has challenged his Everton attackers to be more aggressive after they drew their Premier League opener against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.

Ross Barkley fired the hosts ahead in the Dutchman's first game in charge since a summer move from Southampton, but the Toffees missed a string of chances before Erik Lamela made it 1-1 late on.

"It's Ross's first goal and this is one of his qualities but what I like from my midfielders and strikers is that they work hard," Koeman told reporters after the game.

"They need to run more and be more aggressive and then, with their qualities, they will be great players. It starts by working hard and they need to improve in that.

"The signs are very positive. The performance for 45 minutes was at the level I expect from the team. The fans like the energy and it starts with this, not by playing football."

Everton's next Premier League game is away at West Bromwich Albion next Saturday.
