Roberto Martinez backs Arouna Kone to find the net

Everton manager Roberto Martinez is confident that Arouna Kone will start scoring goals sooner rather than later.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has backed Arouna Kone to start scoring goals sooner rather than later.

The Ivory Coast international is yet to find the net for his new club after joining from Wigan Athletic in the summer.

Despite Kone missing a number of chances during Saturday's win over Hull City in the Premier League, Martinez is happy that the forward is still contributing to the team.

"We have to remember that Arouna has had a few niggles that have stopped him from being himself," he told EvertonTV.

"At the end of the day you always feel disappointed when you don't take your chances but I never value or measure a striker by taking those chances or not – I value a striker by creating those chances.

"I thought he looked sharp, looked lively and technically good in everything he did. If he carries on creating those chances everyone will see the type of player that Arouna can be."

Everton continue their Premier League campaign on Saturday when they make the trip to Aston Villa.
