Former Everton midfielder Andy van der Meyde acknowledges that he was not a fan of manager David Moyes during his time at Goodison Park.

Former Everton midfielder Andy van der Meyde has described manager David Moyes as "an overrated technician".

In a four-year spell at Goodison Park between 2005 and 2009, Van der Meyde made just 24 appearances without scoring a single goal.

Despite acknowledging that he had been part of a good team, the Dutchman has criticised Moyes for his part in his disappointing period on Merseyside.

On Instagram, the ex-winger said: "In England, it's full stadiums, people in Liverpool live only for football. Football and beer, that was their secret. Everton was a good team, [Mikel] Arteta was already super, even [Tim] Cahill was decisive.

"I had problems that you all know, Moyes did not speak to me; with him cold and Scottish the relationship never took off. In my opinion, he's an overrated technician; they sent him away from Manchester United after only one miserable season."

Since leaving Everton in 2013, Moyes has won 59 of his 179 matches at United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham United.
