DC United target Wayne Rooney is now expected to stay at Everton for another year and fight for a first-team place, according to a report.

Wayne Rooney has reportedly made a U-turn on his decision to leave Everton and join Major League Soccer side DC United following Sam Allardyce's Goodison Park exit.

The former England skipper was expected to make the move Stateside later this month after opening talks over a £12m switch.

Rooney had grown frustrated under Allardyce, twice being taken off after less than an hour in back-to-back matches, but the 63-year-old's departure may have a knock-on effect.

According to The Mirror, Rooney will now snub United and instead wait until next summer before moving abroad for a big payday.

Marco Silva is the current frontrunner to succeed Allardyce, despite the threat of a points deduction and fine if they appoint the former Watford manager.
