FC Twente defender Douglas has put talks with Russian side Anzhi Makhachkala on hold in order to open negotiations with Inter Milan.
The 25-year-old, who looked to be on his way to Newcastle United until Joe Kinnear scrapped the deal, wants to play in Serie A, according to his agent.
"It is good that a top club like Anzhi made an offer to Douglas, but he wants to play in Serie A," Marcos Paulo Ribeiro told Russian newspaper Izvestia.
"When Inter showed interest in the player, we decided to stop negotiations with the Russian club and wait for the summer transfer market."
Douglas is out of contract next year.
