Marcos Alonso has revealed that he is "very happy" to have joined Fiorentina from Bolton Wanderers.

The 22-year-old Spanish defender recently turned down a new contract at the Reebok Stadium in favour of a three-year deal with the Serie A side.

"I am very happy to be at Fiorentina and I hope to help the team to fight for the first positions," Alonso told reporters.

"Here at Fiorentina there are great players with whom I can train and learn, like Mario Gomez, Guiseppe Rossi and Massimo Ambrosini - there is a big difference compared to Bolton."

Alonso joined Bolton from Real Madrid in 2010.
