Preview: Bromley vs. Gillingham - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's League Two clash between Bromley and Gillingham, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Bromley play host to Gillingham on Wednesday evening looking for the win that will move them away from the relegation zone.

At a time when the home side sit in 20th position in the League Two table, Gillingham have recently dropped down to 11th spot.

Having failed to build on their excellent start to the season, League Two newcomers Bromley are now finally finding their feet at this level of football.

Their only defeat in eight matches came in the EFL Trophy, and they progressed to the third round of the FA Cup on Sunday with a hard-fought 2-1 victory at Solihull Moors.

Andy Woodman's side came from behind against the National League outfit to book their place in this round of the competition for the first time in their history.

Attention now turns back to League Two matters with the Ravens having put together a five-game unbeaten run in the division, albeit helped by four successive draws.

Despite returning to Hayes Lane, Bromley have not prevailed across 90 minutes at their home ground since they beat AFC Wimbledon on August 17.

Meanwhile, Mark Bonner is facing a battle to keep his Gillingham side in a promotion battle after losing their way since the opening weeks of the campaign.

As many as six defeats have been posted in their last eight league matches, the only success during that period remarkably being against leaders Port Vale.

Bonner would have hoped that Gillingham had turned a corner with that 1-0 triumph, yet they went down 2-1 at home to 17th-placed Harrogate Town last time out.

Now sitting three points adrift of the playoff places, Bonner knows that a response is needed if Gillingham are to avoid losing touching distance to the top seven ahead of the Christmas period.

Team News

Unless Woodman insists on introducing fresh legs having named the same side for the past two games, his Bromley XI could remain the same.

Carl Jenkinson, Cameron Congreve and Louis Dennis are among those waiting in the wings should Woodman want to hand any of his regulars a rest.

Meanwhile, Aaron Rowe and Bradley Dack are expected to miss out for Gillingham due to injury.

George Lapslie and Jack Nolan are both in contention for recalls in creative areas, while Jayden Clarke is an option depending on whether Bonner reverts to a back four and uses wingers over two central strikers.

Bromley possible starting lineup:
Smith; Sowunmi, Webster, Grant; Imray, Arthurs, Thompson, Odutayo; Cheek, Olomola, Whitely

Gillingham possible starting lineup:
Turner; Hutton, Masterson, Ehmer, Ogie, Clark; Dieng, Coleman, Williams; Nevitt, Wyllie

We say: Bromley 2-1 Gillingham

While Gillingham may sit nine places higher in the table, there is far more momentum on Bromley's side. With that in mind, we are backing the home team to come through, potentially during the latter stages when Gillingham may be trying to defend a point.
