Preview: Go Ahead Eagles vs. PEC Zwolle - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between Go Ahead Eagles and PEC Zwolle, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Looking to avoid a fifth defeat on the bounce, PEC Zwolle travel to De Adelaarshorst for their clash against Go Ahead Eagles on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the home side are also in need of a pick-me-up following their poor start to the season where they have lost all but one of their four outings so far.

Match preview

PEC Zwolle were left empty-handed once again following a 2-0 defeat versus defending champions Ajax at the Mac3Park Stadion on Saturday.

Art Langeler's men went behind to Sebastien Haller's opener just shy of the half-hour mark before the striker grabbed his second of the game midway through the second half.

Still yet to pick up a point, the Blauwvingers unsurprisingly remain rooted to the bottom of the Eredivisie table after the first four rounds of matches.

Sunday's visitors now aim to get their season up and running against an opposing side who they have beaten in nine of the last 15 meetings between the teams.

To do that, an improvement in attack has to be made as Zwolle remain the only side yet to find the back of the net this term, while also failing to keep a clean sheet in any of their outings to date.

Go Ahead Eagles lost for the second consecutive time away from following a 5-2 drubbing at the hands of fellow newcomers Cambuur on Saturday.

Despite taking the lead courtesy of Luuk Brouwers's opener, Kees Van Wonderen's men conceded five unanswered goals in the space of 30 minutes to Tamas Kiss, Jamie Jacobs, Marco Tol and Tom Boere who scored a brace, before pulling one back through Inigo Cordoba.

The pride of the IJssel Kowet now return to their own turf where they overcame Sparta Rotterdam 2-0 in their last involvement before the international break.

Sitting 16th in the table ahead of this weekend's game, Sunday's hosts will be keen to breathe life into their first top-flight campaign since 2017.

Team News

Sam Crowther will not feature for the home side due to a heart problem which saw him make just seven league appearances during the last campaign.

Twenty-three-year-old Frank Ross still awaits his first outing of the new season due to a knee injury he sustained earlier in the year.

Sai Van Wermeskerken remains ruled out for Zwolle since picking up a knee injury in February and the Japanese defender continues his spell on the sidelines.

Pelle Clement failed to shrug off a minor knock in time to feature versus Ajax, but the Dutch midfielder could make his return to the starting XI for this one.

Go Ahead Eagles possible starting lineup:
Hahn; Kuipers, Bakker, Nauber, Deijl; Oratmangoen, Brouwers, Lucassen; Berden, Heil, Lidberg

PEC Zwolle possible starting lineup:
Lamprou; Van Polen, Kersten, Voet, De Wit; Reijnders, Strieder, Van den Belt; Paal, Tedic, Redan

SM words green background

We say: Go Ahead Eagles 1-1 PEC Zwolle

Given their poor starts to the new season, neither side will be too dissatisfied with a draw, and we see the game panning out that way with both teams cancelling each other out in what should be a nervy and cagey affair.
