Preview: Go Ahead Eagles vs. Groningen - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Eredivisie clash between Go Ahead Eagles and Groningen, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Unbeaten in eight matches, Go Ahead Eagles welcome Groningen to De Adelaarshorst in round 13 of the Eredivisie season on Sunday.

The away team also head into the game on their best run of the season so far having lost just one of their last six outings.

Match preview

Groningen were involved in a share of the spoils following a 1-1 draw versus RKC Waalwijk at the Euroborg on November 7.

Danny Buijs's men went into the interval behind courtesy of Michiel Kramer's opener before drawing level in the 85th minute through Jorgen Strand Larsen.

The Pride of the North are hovering just above the relegation zone by a point following a woeful start to the 2021-22 season.

Their next task comes against an opposing side who have not won any of the last eight meetings between the teams since the turn of the millennium.

Sunday's visitors, who have conceded the joint-most goals away from home this term, will need to tighten up at the back if they are to pick up a positive result.

Go Ahead Eagles upset the odds in their match against defending champions Ajax two Sundays ago when they played out a goalless draw.

Despite being on the back foot for the majority of the contest, Kees van Wonderen's men held firm to secure an impressive point in Amsterdam.

The pride of the IJssel Kowet have now amassed 11 of the last 15 points available and are currently 10th on the log, a point off the top half.

Only the current top four teams have picked up more points on home turf than Sunday's hosts, who will be confident of securing another feather in the cap this weekend.

Team News

Twenty-year-old Turan Tuzlacik is ruled out through a leg injury and will not play any part for the home side.

Scottish midfielder Frank Ross made his season debut in Thursday's friendly versus Meppen, but the 23-year-old might not be risked for this weekend's game.

Groningen's Mike te Wierik remains sidelined with a foot injury, while Radinio Balker is yet to feature this term due to a cruciate ligament injury.

Jorge Strand Larsen came off the bench to good effect last time out and could be rewarded with a place in the starting lineup this time around.

Go Ahead Eagles possible starting lineup:
Hahn; Kuipers, Kramer, Idzen, Lucassen; Brouwers, Botos, Rommens; Cordoba, Oratmangoen, Cardona

Groningen possible starting lineup:
Leeuwenburgh; Dammers, Sverko, Dankerlui, Van Hintum; El Hankouri, Suslov, Kasanwirjo; De Leeuw, Ngonge, Strand Larsen

We say: Go Ahead Eagles 2-1 Groningen

Playing in front of their fans, the onus will be more on the hosts to take control of proceedings and secure all three points. We are backing them to emerge victorious at the end of the 90 minutes.
