Huddersfield Town captain Jonathan Hogg: "I'm devastated"

Huddersfield's two-season stint in the top flight came on the back of a run of 17 defeats in 19 games.

Jonathan Hogg has revealed the sense of "devastation" that came with Huddersfield's relegation to the Championship.

Saturday's 2-0 defeat at Crystal Palace resulted in the Terriers becoming only the second team to be relegated from the Premier League before the end of March, and ending their two-season stay in the top flight.

With little beyond pride left to play for in Town's six remaining games, Hogg told the club's official website: "It's not good.

"I'm devastated because of all the hard work that's gone in to get us where we are, it's all been taken away from us.

"It's been enjoyable while we've been here, but we need to make sure we put things right and try our best to bounce back.

"The fans have been fantastic for all of us. We need to try and give them something to cheer about because they've stuck by us through thick and thin. Credit to them.

"We need to make sure we make them proud and at least get a couple more wins for them."

Addressing where Huddersfield need to improve, Hogg added: "We said in the dressing room that game summed our season up, getting chances and not taking them, allowing easy chances for the opposition that they put away, and the penalty.

"We need to cut that out. You give teams like Palace, or any Premier League teams like Palace that opportunity, they are going to snap it up.

"We need to take the positives out and try our best to be positive. It'll be hard over the next three or four days to get our heads around it, but we need to try our best to stay focused and keep looking ahead."

Palace's victory was secured by goals from Luka Milivojevic, from the penalty spot, and Patrick van Aanholt, and came amid a vastly improved second-half display that has edged the club closer to securing safety.

"We changed the system second half and we went to play with two strikers up front," Milivojevic told Palace's official website.

"The message was to remain calm and not to react because we knew as time moved on we would become more nervous. But we dealt with that very easy,  even though we missed a lot of chances.

"In the end I feel we deserved these three points and we are so happy we managed to keep a clean sheet as well."
