Huddersfield Town secure a 3-2 aggregate victory over MK Dons despite losing 2-1 at the Galpharm Stadium to book a Wembley final against Sheffield United.

Huddersfield Town have secured a place in the League One playoff final with a 3-2 aggregate victory over MK Dons despite a 2-1 defeat at the Galpharm Stadium.

ALthough MK Dons started brightly it was the home side who took the lead in the 18th minute.

Jordan Rhodes broke the deadlock as he reacted to a long ball superbly to fire home his 40th goal of the season to make the aggregate score 3-0.

The Dons responded positively to the setback and started to dominate the match as the first half wore on.

Karl Robinson's side gave themselves a passage back into the tie in the 38th minute when Daniel Powell collected a ball on the edge of the area before turning and bending a superb shot into the corner of the net.

Charlie MacDonald was denied a penalty in the final stages of the first half despite the Dons forward appearing to be pushed as he stretched to meet a cross.

MK Dons almost scored their second goal of the night just minutes after the restart when MacDonald beat the offside trap but the striker failed to hit the target.

Huddersfield almost put the tie beyond doubt on the hour mark but David Martin denied Lee Novak and Jack Hunt within a matter of moments.

The visitors continued to dominate possession but failed to force many clear chances as the second half entered its final stages.

However, former Manchester United forward Alan Smith forced a nervy finish for the Terriers as he headed in at the back post in stoppage time.

Huddersfield managed to survive the late pressure and Simon Grayson's side ensured that they will face Sheffield United in the final at Wembley for a place in the Championship.
