Steve Bruce: 'It was like watching paint dry'

Hull City manager Steve Bruce admits that his much-changed side's 1-0 League Cup victory over Huddersfield Town at the KC Stadium was "like watching paint dry".

Steve Bruce has admitted that he was unimpressed by the performance of his Hull City side in their Capital One Cup victory over Huddersfield Town on Tuesday evening.

The Tigers overcame their Championship opponents 1-0 at the KC Stadium thanks to German striker Nick Proschwitz's first goal of the season.

"It was a comfortable evening for us but it was, if I'm being honest, like watching paint dry," he told reporters.

"There was no real cohesion to us, it was both managers throwing 11 bodies on the pitch really. Once you lose that cohesion there was no real tempo to it because of what it was.

"It was more like a friendly than a cup tie. But that's what the early rounds of the cup have turned into now; it's a shame but there you have it."

Bruce made nine changes from the Hull XI that started in their Premier League victory over Newcastle United on Saturday, with Liam Rosenior and Stephen Quinn the only players to retain their places.
