The hosts came close to taking the lead inside 10 minutes when the ball was played to Anderson Hernanes who let fly from distance, only for his effort to be beaten away by Pepe Reina.

Mateo Kovacic was the next Inter player to try his luck following an end-to-end start to the contest, skipping away from a couple of challenges before getting a shot away at goal which needed to be kept out by Reina once more.

The Partenopei managed to create an opening of their own shortly after through Jose Callejon, who was picked out with a ball over the top, but he failed to find the target with his strike.

Following a driving run from just inside the opposition half, Rodrigo Palacio managed to use his pace to brush past the Napoli defence, but his shot from the edge of the box was off target.
