Inverness Caledonian Thistle through to quarter-finals

A 2-0 home victory over Stranraer ensures Inverness Caledonian Thistle make it safely into the next round of the Scottish Cup.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are into the quarter-final stage of the Scottish Cup, courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Stranraer.

The hosts took the lead rather fortuitously through Nick Ross, who saw the ball roll into the back of the net after Frank McKeown smashed it right off him.

David Mitchell had to push away Greg Tansey's long-range effort shortly after as the hosts looked to double their lead, with the midfielder's effort from 25 yards forcing a fine save.

Ross almost added his second following a run past three opposition players, but his shot was straight at Mitchell.

Graeme Shinnie played a fine ball into the box as Caley Thistle went in search of a second goal, before Tansey saw his resulting effort on goal blocked.

The home side didn't have it all their own way, however, as League 1 Stranraer came close to levelling through Steven Bell, but his effort from all of 35 yards was tipped over the bar by Dean Brill.

The League Cup finalists made sure of their passage through to the next round when substitute Aaron Dorran added a second in the closing stages with his own long-range effort.
