Ipswich Town captain Carlos Edwards concedes that the future of manager Paul Jewell is a topic of conversation for the club's players.

Captain Carlos Edwards has admitted that some members of the Ipswich Town squad have held discussions regarding the future of manager Paul Jewell.

The Tractor Boys, who have gained just seven points so far this season, currently sit within the Championship's relegation zone.

That form has led to speculation that Jewell will soon be relieved of his duties at Portman Road.

Despite insisting that the players are focused on their jobs, Edwards has confessed that their manager's situation is not something that they can ignore.

"It's not been a topic really. The lads just get on with the job," he told the East Anglian Daily Times. "You might hear a little whisper, but it's not helpful if we're sat around discussing about whether the manager is going to get sacked.

"Yes, we do have our concerns, but we just get on with it. I'll continue to give my all for the manager, the club and the fans and see where we go from there."

However, former Sunderland midfielder Edwards has tipped Jewell to reverse Ipswich's fortunes.

"The table doesn't lie, yes we are in the bottom two, but things can only get better if we stick together as a squad and a management unit," he added.

Jewell took charge of the Suffolk-based club in January 2011.
