David McGoldrick fires Ipswich Town to victory

David McGoldrick scores twice as Ipswich Town come from behind to beat Middlesbrough 3-1 in the Championship.

David McGoldrick bagged a brace as Ipswich Town recovered from a goal deficit to beat Middlesbrough 3-1 at Portman Road in the Championship.

The visitors went ahead through Albert Adomah on 12 minutes, as the Ghana international tucked his effort beyond goalkeeper Dean Gerken to score his first goal for the club.

Tony Mowbray's men would not have the lead for long, though, as the Tractor Boys drew level through marksman McGoldrick, who smashed his effort past Jason Steele in the Middlesbrough goal to restore parity.

Manager Mick McCarthy then thought that he had seen his team secure a 2-1 half-time lead, only for Frank Nouble's goal to be ruled out for offside.

However, McCarthy would not have long to wait before seeing his side take a valid lead, as Luke Chambers planted his header past Gerken following a neat cross from Aaron Creswell.

McGoldrick came within millimetres of establishing daylight in the scoreline by unleashing a shot from 35 yards that whistled just by the post.

Luke Hyam should have put the result beyond doubt for the hosts. However, the 21-year-old fluffed his lines at the crucial moment and produced an air-kick with the goal at his mercy.

The game was soon put to bed though, with McGoldrick grabbing his second of the game in the dying embers.
