Gianluigi Buffon backs Italy to "surprise everyone" at Euro 2016

Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon backs his side to spring a surprise at Euro 2016 this summer.

Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon has backed his side to "surprise everyone" at Euro 2016 this summer.

The Azzurri are ranked as sixth favourites to win the tournament, behind France, Germany, Spain, England and Belgium, the latter of whom they will face in the group stage.

However, Italy have a reputation for playing their best football at major international tournaments, and Buffon believes that they could do exactly that in France.

"This time Italy are not favourites but we will find the trigger to do something that will surprise everyone," he told reporters.

Italy will take on Scotland on Sunday before facing Finland in their final Euro 2016 warm-up game.
