Alvaro Morata scores late winner for Juventus

Alvaro Morata scores inside the final 10 minutes to hand Juventus a 2-1 win over Inter Milan in Serie A.

Juventus have come from behind to secure a 2-1 win over Inter Milan at the San Siro this evening, with Alvaro Morata scoring the winning goal inside the final 10 minutes.

The home side broke the deadlock less than 10 minutes after kickoff as Marcelo Brozovic sent a high ball into the box which Mauro Icardi deflected into the back of the net off his chest.

The champions pushed to get back on level terms shortly after, dominating possession, but Samir Handanovic was ready to punch a Morata strike clear.

Marco Storari came under pressure down the other end moments later as Rodrigo Palacio pushed for a second for Inter, but the keeper palmed his shot away.

Inter continued to look the more likely as Xherdan Shaqiri struck the crossbar with a curling effort from the edge of the box, before Brozovic's strike on the rebound was chalked off for offside.

Despite the home side's dominance, Juventus were back on level terms before the break when Alessandro Matri was brought down by Nemanja Vidic, setting up Claudio Marchisio for an equaliser from the penalty spot.

The visitors were pressing again at the start of the second half as they tried to take the lead for the first time, but Morata blasted the ball wide before heading just past the post moments later from a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross.

Icardi tried to ease the pressure for the hosts with a quick attack down the other end, but his drive from just outside of the box failed to test the keeper.

Both sides continued to run at the opposing goal as they looked for a winner, with Inter coming close when Danilo D'Ambrosio hit the ball first time from just inside the area before watching the finish bobble wide.

Marchisio tried to punish Inter from another set piece when he lined up a free kick from a dangerous position, but Handanovic watched it all the way to claim it with ease.

Juventus were back on the attack moments later when Inter failed to clear the ball, leaving Morata to hit a half-volley from just outside the box into the bottom-right corner.

Palacio led the charge for the home side as they battled to get back on level terms straight away, but Storari managed to get his fingertips to the ball to push it out for a corner.

Morata tried to put the win beyond doubt in the final moments as he leapt to head the ball towards goal from a Marchisio free kick, but his nodded finish was a fraction wide.

Juventus have already clinched the league title, but the win extends their advantage over second-placed Roma to 19 points, while Inter remain eighth in the Serie A table.
