Leeds United boss Steve Evans bemoans "cruel" way to exit FA Cup

Steve Evans describes Leeds United's FA Cup exit at the hands of Watford as "cruel" after Scott Wootton's comical own goal settled matters at Vicarage Road.

Leeds United manager Steve Evans has said that going out of the FA Cup to Watford because of an own goal by one of his players was "cruel".

Leeds matched their Premier League opponents for much of the game at Vicarage Road, but they could not create much in attack and in the end lost out to Scott Wootton's sliced clearance that found the net.

"It's a cruel way to go out of the Cup," Leeds's website quotes Evans as saying. "We were quite resolute and I can't ask my players to have given any more.

"I felt for Scott Wootton. He got caught in two minds and he'll be hurting after that."

Four-time winners Leeds miss out on a last-eight place, while for Watford is a first quarter-final appearance in nine years.
