Brian McDermott says that he expects Sam Byram to still be at Leeds next season, despite rumours linking the defender with a move away from the club.

Leeds United manager Brian McDermott has said that he expects 19-year-old Sam Byram to still be playing his football with the club next season.

The defender has made 43 appearances for the club since progressing through the club's youth system and despite rumours linking the player with a move away from the club, McDermott expects the youngster to still be at Elland Road next season.

"From our point of view, my point of view, absolutely, 100%, I would expect Sam to be playing for us next season," McDermott told Sky Sports News.

"He will get better and he will improve at Leeds, there is no doubt about that.

"He's a Leeds boy - the fans love him, the staff love him, the players love him."

Leeds are currently 11th in the Championship following their 1-0 win over Burnley on Tuesday.
