Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel is to undergo surgery on a broken metatarsal which will see him ruled out until the New Year.
Manager Nigel Pearson this afternoon revealed that the 28-year-old, who has been in inspired form for the Foxes in recent weeks, is likely to miss up to six weeks of action while he recovers from the setback.
Speaking ahead of his side's meeting with Manchester City in the Premier League this weekend, Pearson said: "Unfortunately Kasper Schmeichel will be having an operation on a broken metatarsal. The optimistic view is four to six weeks out."
Schmeichel has featured in each of the club's top-flight fixtures this season, playing a key role in helping the King Power Stadium outfit gain promotion from the Championship last season.
Leicester are currently rooted to the foot of the table following a 10-game winless run.
