Nigel Pearson: 'Jamie Vardy deserves England call'

Leicester City boss Nigel Pearson says that Jamie Vardy deserves his place in the England squad.

Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has stated his belief that Jamie Vardy fully deserves his call-up to the England squad.

The 28-year-old forward is one of three uncapped players to feature in the 24-man squad for next month's Euro 2016 qualifier against Slovenia and a friendly with the Republic of Ireland.

Vardy, who was playing non-league football with Fleetwood Town less than four years ago, has earned his spot in the squad after helping Leicester to stay in the Premier League.

"It's very easy to judge people but when you consider where he was four seasons ago at Fleetwood, it's quite an amazing turnaround," Pearson told talkSPORT.

"When you look at his career in its entirety, it's a good story, it's probably the type of story that hasn't happened in recent generations of players.

"In my era, somebody put together an England team where their roots were from non-league football, it doesn't happen much these days. It's proof that stories can still happen."

Vardy has netted four league goals for Leicester this season.
