Brendan Rodgers eyes attacking reinforcements at Leicester City

Leicester City boss Brendan Rodgers labels Jamie Vardy "irreplaceable" but admits that attacking reinforcements will most likely be sought this summer.

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers has affirmed that he will seek to bring in attacking reinforcements this summer, but replacing Jamie Vardy is "impossible".

Vardy has struggled with a groin injury since the turn of the year, and while he still boasts 12 goals and five assists in the current Premier League season, he has failed to hit his usual heights after surgery.

The 34-year-old boasts just one goal in his last six games and Leicester have been indebted to Kelechi Iheanacho's strikes in the past couple of weeks, so Rodgers has confirmed that he will be aiming to bolster his options up front this summer.

Speaking to reporters, the Leicester manager said: "For me he [Vardy] is irreplaceable. You cannot find anyone there. It is so unique, his story, his qualities and what he has given to Leicester.

"For us, it's more about the actual profile of what we want. I'll always look to have speed at the top of the field, but are there other attributes that we would look for? But to try to replace him – it's impossible.

"[He is] an incredible servant for the club, and still has a big contribution to make over this season and the next couple of seasons.

"For the number of games we play, and the demands that is put on players... he is not going to be able to play to that rhythm and style every game. Our idea in the summer will be to strengthen the squad again."

Vardy has struck 115 goals in 235 Premier League matches for Leicester City, and his current deal at the King Power Stadium expires in the summer of 2023.
