Leicester City manager Claude Puel urges playmaker Riyad Mahrez not to become distracted by speculation over his future at the King Power Stadium.

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has urged playmaker Riyad Mahrez not to become distracted by speculation over his future at the King Power Stadium.

The Algerian handed in a transfer request during the summer transfer window, but a move away from the Midlands failed to materialise, with Mahrez continuing to feature for the Foxes this term.

Puel has said that the midfielder must focus on continuing his club form and forget about a move away from Leicester.

"I'm happy that I have Riyad in my team," Puel told the Leicester Mercury. "When you look at his performances in the games, he is enjoying his football.

"He is a crucial player, I can only say this, if he continues at this level then I'm happy. He has a good feeling, this is the most important thing, for him and the team.

"As for his relationship [with the club], I think the most important thing is not to be distracted about other things."

Leicester play Newcastle United on Saturday before travelling to Southampton in midweek.
