Lille hopeful over Mathieu Debuchy

Mathieu Debuchy could snub a move away from Lille and sign a contract extension with the club, according his employers.

France right-back Mathieu Debuchy could yet stay with Lille this summer, according to club president Michel Seydoux.

The 26-year-old has attracted interest from a number of clubs following his impressive performances for his country at Euro 2012.

Both Inter Milan and Newcastle United have reportedly had bids rejected for the player, and Seydoux hasn't ruled out the possibility of the Frenchman signing a contract extension with Lille.

"Mathieu is on vacation. Let him rest. I think Mathieu is an essential element of our game and he knows it," Seydoux said.

"We'll see how things will slowly evolve."

Debuchy signed professional terms with Lille in 2003 after a spell in their youth system.
