Wednesday's Champions League predictions including Ajax vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole provides score predictions for all of Tuesday night's Champions League fixtures, including Ajax vs. Liverpool.

Salzburg vs. Lokomotiv (Wednesday, 5.55pm)

Red Bull Salzburg and Lokomotiv Moscow begin their bid to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages with a meeting in Austria.

Having been drawn alongside Bayern Munich and Atletico Madrid in Group A, both sides are aware of the importance of the game at the Red Bull Arena.

We say: Red Bull Salzburg 2-1 Lokomotiv Moscow

Taking their domestic form into consideration, it appears that these two teams are evenly matched. However, while Lokomotiv will look to keep things tight during the opening stages of the game, we feel that Salzburg should have enough quality in the final third to ultimately secure maximum points.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Real Madrid vs. Shakhtar (Wednesday, 5.55pm)

Real Madrid begin their 2020-21 Champions League campaign with a home match against Ukrainian champions Shakhtar Donetsk in a tricky-looking Group B.

Los Blancos suffered a shock first defeat of the domestic season at the weekend and need to quickly pick themselves up against a Shakhtar side unbeaten in five.

We say: Real Madrid 2-0 Shakhtar Donetsk

Madrid's focus may well be elsewhere, with a huge league trip to Barcelona on the horizon, but Zidane will know the importance of bouncing back from defeat last time out.

Under-strength Shakhtar have struggled to get wins on the board domestically this term and, on the continent, have conceded at least one goal in each of their last 22 Champions League games.

Even accounting for some changes, Zidane's men should have more than enough firepower to get the job done in this opening Group B clash.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Bayern vs. Atletico (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

Bayern Munich begin the defence of their Champions League trophy with a showdown against Atletico Madrid on Wednesday evening.

The visitors make the trip to the Allianz Arena looking to avoid a second successive defeat to Bundesliga opposition after losing to RB Leipzig in last season's quarter-finals.

We say: Bayern Munich 3-1 Atletico Madrid

While neither team have produced their best form during a hectic start to the season, we cannot look past the home side. Flick and his players will be motivated to retain their trophy this season, and that desire could lead to a statement performance being produced on Wednesday evening.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Inter Milan vs. Borussia M'bach (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

San Siro will be the stage for Inter Milan's return to Champions League football on Wednesday, as they get underway with a Group B clash against Borussia Monchengladbach.

With Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk also in the group, three points at home would give Inter a solid platform from which to reach the round of 16, where last season's Europa League runners-up have not appeared since 2011-12.

The German side have built a team with some much-coveted internationals and will be far from pushovers on their return to Europe's top table.

We say: Inter Milan 1-1 Borussia Monchengladbach

For all their undoubted pedigree, Inter have defensive issues which continue to undermine a potent attacking threat.

Gladbach's potentially explosive front line can cause the Milan giants enough problems to justify a draw in this Group B opener.

Our tipster partners are predicting under 3.5 goals.

Man City vs. Porto (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

Pep Guardiola's quest for a first Champions League crown with Manchester City continues on Wednesday as the Citizens welcome Porto to the Etihad for their inaugural clash of the 2020-21 tournament.

The hosts head into the Group C tie following a hard-fought 1-0 win over Arsenal at the weekend, whereas Porto's showdown with fellow Portuguese powerhouses Sporting Lisbon ended all square.

We say: Manchester City 3-1 Porto

Both of these European giants have not enjoyed the starts to their domestic seasons that they were hoping for, and City also have a number of absentees to contend with for their first Champions League showdown of the campaign. However, Porto's record on English soil is nothing short of abysmal and we cannot see the Portuguese outfit walking away with something to show from this encounter - this should be a routine victory for City.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Olympiacos vs. Marseille (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

Olympiacos and Marseille will both be looking to build on weekend victories in their respective leagues when the two sides lock horns at the Stadio Georgios Karaiskakis in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The hosts marched to a comfortable 4-0 triumph over Atromitos Athens on Saturday, while Marseille overcame Bordeaux 3-1 in Ligue 1 last time out.

We say: Olympiacos 2-2 Marseille

This is a difficult game to call between two sides who would do extremely well to pip City or Porto to the top two spots in Group C. Olympiacos and Marseille will both be full of confidence heading into this match following impressive victories at the weekend, but we cannot separate the two clubs and are ultimately backing a high-scoring draw on Wednesday evening.

Our tipster partners are predicting a double chance bet on a home win or an away win.

Ajax vs. Liverpool (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp pictured on October 17, 2020© Reuters

Two of European football's greatest names face off on Wednesday as Ajax welcome Liverpool to the Johan Cruyff ArenA for their opening Champions League Group D encounter.

The two clubs have lifted the famous trophy 10 times between them, but this will be the first time that they have gone head to head for 54 years.

We say: Ajax 1-2 Liverpool

Liverpool may not be in the best form in terms of results, but there was little wrong with their performance against Everton and if they produce a similar display in Amsterdam then they should win.

The big question mark surrounds how they will cope without Van Dijk, particularly against an Ajax attack with plenty of goals in them, but the impact of Liverpool's other stars certainly should not be ignored amid the loss of their centre-back.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.

Midtjylland vs. Atalanta (Wednesday, 8.00pm)

Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini pictured on August 25, 2019© Reuters

Atalanta BC return to Champions League action on Wednesday evening with a Group D fixture against FC Midtjylland in Denmark.

While last season's quarter-finalists are competing in their first game of this campaign, the home side were required to win three qualifying matches to reach this stage of the competition for the first time in their history.

We say: FC Midtjylland 1-4 Atalanta BC

While Atalanta were thrashed by Napoli at the weekend, we are expecting Gasperini's side to produce a ruthless response. Midtjylland will be hoping to repel their opponents for as long as possible, but conceding early could lead to a long night for the Danes.

Our tipster partners are predicting over 2.5 goals.
