Mohamed Salah's record vs. Brighton & Hove Albion

Sports Mole takes a closer look at Mohamed Salah's record against Brighton & Hove Albion ahead of Liverpool's clash with the Seagulls.

Liverpool will aim to keep the pressure on Premier League table-toppers Chelsea when they welcome Brighton & Hove Albion to Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

The Reds currently occupy second spot in the rankings after producing a five-star performance to hammer Manchester United at Old Trafford last weekend.

Mohamed Salah bagged three of his side's five goals at the Theatre of Dreams as he continues his irrepressible form, and the Egyptian has enjoyed his fair share of success against Brighton down the years as well.

Here, Sports Mole takes a closer look at Salah's record against the Seagulls.

With Brighton far from a Premier League outfit during Salah's days with Chelsea, the attacker's first meeting with the South Coast side came in the 2017-18 campaign, as he assisted a Roberto Firmino goal in a 5-1 thrashing at the Amex.

The Reds also met Brighton on the final day of that season at Anfield, where Salah would open the scoring before setting up Dominic Solanke in a resounding 4-0 win before carrying over his hot streak to the 2018-19 season.

That year, Liverpool would chalk up a pair of 1-0 wins over Brighton, and Salah bagged the winning goal on both occasions before drawing his first blank against the Seagulls at Anfield in a 2-1 win during the 2019-20 campaign.

However, the 29-year-old would have a hand in all three goals later that year at the Amex - scoring twice and setting up another in a 3-1 win - by which point Liverpool had already been crowned champions of England.

After sweeping Brighton aside left right and centre three seasons in a row, Liverpool would endure a harder time of things in last season's fixtures, firstly drawing 1-1 away from home as Salah set up Diogo Jota's opener before Pascal Gross's last-gasp penalty.

Salah was on the receiving end of a defeat to Brighton for the first time back in February as the Seagulls claimed a memorable 1-0 win on the Anfield turf, with the Liverpool man enduring a forgettable afternoon with 0/4 ground duels won, two big chances missed and losing possession 16 times.

On the whole, Salah has faced Brighton eight times so far and came out on the winning side six times in his first six encounters with the Seagulls - drawing one and losing one in a more miserable 2020-21 season, while he has had a direct hand in nine goals in that time.

A tally of five goals and four assists from eight games against Brighton is remarkable, but even though Salah has never failed to register a goal or assist at the Amex, he has drawn a blank in his last two Anfield meetings with the Seagulls and will be intent on ending that barren streak on Saturday.
