Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that Philippe Coutinho is recovering well from an ankle injury, but refuses to give an estimated return date.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has revealed that Philippe Coutinho is progressing well in his rehabilitation from an ankle injury, but refused to give an estimated return date.

The Brazil international suffered an ankle ligament injury in the 2-0 victory over Sunderland on November 26 and was expected to be out until 2017.

However, Coutinho himself has recently claimed that he is recovering well and could be back before the end of the year.

Asked if the 24-year-old could be back for the clash against Manchester City at Anfield on New Year's Eve, Klopp told Sky Sports News: "It would be cool. He is improving a lot.

"He is off his crutches since the West Ham game, when we left the stadium he was walking in front without them.

"I never rush a player back. I'm the most patient person in Liverpool. I always wait for someone. I can't rush it."

Coutinho has scored six goals and registered five assists in 14 Liverpool appearances this season.
