Simon Mignolet to retain place in goal for Merseyside derby

Jurgen Klopp expects Simon Mignolet to start between the sticks in Liverpool's crunch meeting with Everton at Goodison Park after his display against Sunderland.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he intends to keep faith with Simon Mignolet in goal for the Merseyside derby meeting with Everton on Monday.

The Belgium international came in for his first Premier League start since September in the 3-0 victory over Sunderland on Wednesday night, having previously lost his place to Loris Karius.

A string of errors from Karius led to some widespread criticism, however, prompting Klopp to take him out of the firing line for that trip to the Stadium of Light and instead turn to the more experienced Mignolet - himself overlooked in the past following some questionable displays.

Klopp is happy with the ability of both his goalkeepers, but has insisted that he is keen not to chop and change on a regular basis and has already made an early decision over who will feature against the Toffees.

"I don't want to change each week, that was not the plan," he told reporters. "I know how fantastic Loris is as a goalkeeper. It's not enough if only I know it. Only if something happens and then we have Loris again.

"It is a good decision for both the way I see it. Sometimes the job is to take someone out of the public view. Only step aside and use the time to get in your best shape. Simon had a really good game so he will be in goal for sure. We only made the change because Simon is in brilliant shape."

Mignolet has featured 10 times for Liverpool in all competitions this term, keeping a total of four clean sheets during that time.
