Liverpool's Daniel Sturridge should 'hopefully' return to training next week

Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that Daniel Sturridge will return to Liverpool training "at some point" next week following a thigh injury.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that striker Daniel Sturridge will return to training next week as he continues to recover from a thigh problem.

The 25-year-old has been out of action since he suffered the blow while training for England almost a fortnight ago.

Rodgers was critical of England's handling of Sturridge, who has missed the Reds' last two games, but the Northern Irishman has told reporters today that the striker could return to regular training "at some point" next week.

Meanwhile, Joe Allen is a "few weeks" away from returning, while Martin Skrtel is back in training and Glen Johnson is expected to train over the weekend.

However, Jon Flanagan is sidelined for a "few months" after undergoing an operation.
