Dirk Kuyt is delighted with his first trophy for Liverpool as they beat Cardiff City on penalties to claim the Carling Cup.

Liverpool forward Dirk Kuyt has expressed his delight at the side's dramatic Carling Cup final victory over Cardiff City at Wembley Stadium.

The Dutchman looked to have won it for the Reds in extra time when he put them 2-1 ahead, but Ben Turner's late goal sent the game to penalties.

Liverpool triumphed 3-2 from the spot as Kuyt claimed his first trophy in six years at the club.

"We wanted to win the trophy so badly," he told Sky Sports News.

"This is what I came to Liverpool for and to win a first trophy is excellent and hopefully we can add another later in the season."

It is the eighth time that the Merseysiders have won the competition.
